Bio
History
When Riza thinks of family, she thinks of her father. Her mother died when she was just a baby, so that Riza never felt the need to grieve, but always sensed that she was different than other children. But she didn't care about that, because she had her father.

Riza's father was an officer in the San Fransisco Police, although at the loss of his wife, he left active duty and instead became a trainer for new recruits. He saw the corruption in the police system, and did his best to fight it in both his own conduct and how he trained the recruits. Riza grew up sharing his passion and his dream.

In 2000, a young man named Roy Mustang became one of Hawkeye's recruits. Riza, who commuted to the local college from home, got to know him a bit as he became her father's favored pupil. At first, he struck her as silly, carefree, and somewhat adrift, with no plan for his life. But bit by bit, she saw that he shared the same passions and dreams as her father, and thought she could respect him.

Then 9/11 changed everything. Roy was pulled into Afghanistan, much to Riza's father's sadness and disgust -- he understood that Roy didn't have a choice, but he thought the war was immoral and wrong. Soon after Roy left, her father developed cancer. Despite talk of "the marvels of modern medicine" and "giving it the good fight," a heartbeat later and he was gone.

With almost no money after hospital bills, Riza dropped out of college. Some friends of her father's convinced her to join the police academy and to follow in her father's footsteps. She proved to have a sharp eye and unflappable nerves, perfect for being a police sniper. But those same traits isolated her from her peers. Although she wanted to fix the system and save the world, she found that she couldn't. Quiet, extremely reserved, she had neither the capacity nor the desire to be a charismatic leader. She frightened rather than inspired those around her. Faced with a corrupt system and her own inability to fix it, Riza became dark and bitter.

Then Roy came back; darker, haunted, but infinitely more focused in purpose. He had the intelligence, the charisma, and the drive needed to make a difference. For the first time in a long time, Riza felt hope, and she resolved to do everything in her power to help him achieve his and her father's dream.
